For the next week or so through New Years you know that you’re going to be inundated with the tastiest food of the year. Not only will rich foods and sugar desserts tempt you every day, but you’ll want to eat your fill… and more. I mean the holiday food only comes around once a year, you need to enjoy it now! So what’s the use in trying right? How can you fight it when it’s EVERYWHERE you look?
There are some tricks though! You don’t have to get stressed out that you’re scale is going to break when you get on it on January 2nd. Especially the last couple of weeks before Christmas, getting to the gym becomes difficult, you’re exhausted when you get home and time is precious with to-do lists longer than Santa’s “Nice” list. So don’t worry about going to the gym and just add some exercises into your routine and keep in mind these helpful bits of advice:
-
Park at the end of the parking lot when you go shopping so you have to walk a bit further.
-
Eat a regular meal before you got to a holiday party so that you’re full when plates of pie go by.
-
Eat by color at your holiday meals. By making sure you have bits of every color on your plate, you’re eating more of the good stuff and smaller amounts.
-
Drink a glass of water before you go back for seconds. The water will fill you up and keep you from over stuffing yourself.
-
Do some sit-ups and lunges on commercials when enjoying the holiday television shows with the kids. They won’t be paying attention to you and you can use it after the extra cup of hot chocolate.
-
Keep a bag of carrots, nuts, or sliced apples handy over the holidays. If you don’t have something healthy to snack on, you’ll make a dive for all the sweets around you instead.
