Tips to Beat the Heat

Boy is it HOT! I love the heat and personally love the humidity as well (showing my Florida side), but there are some risks that come along with these extremes. To make sure you and your family are safe in the rising temperatures, here are just a few quick tips:

  • Love that H2O – drink lots and keep hydrated especially if you will be outdoors at all
  • Slather on the sunscreen – even if you’re wondering around outside for a short time, put the sunscreen on (at least a 15 and 30 recommended)
  • Make your own shade – Wear a hat as this will protect you from getting hot headed
  • Stay inside during peak hours - that would be from about noon to 2 for most of us
  • Take a breather – Don’t worry if you don’t get your jog in today, the heat will do more damage than your workout will do good. Take a short walk if you’re feeling especially antsy, otherwise keep it indoors.
  • Listen to the experts – If they tell you heat has increased health dangers like air quality and you should stay inside, LISTEN
  • Bring a layer- When you go out to stores and restaurants be prepared for a dramatic temperature change and bring a sweater or jacket to pull on. Drastic changes in temp can lead to getting sick…
